“I don’t know,” Leon replied with a small shrug, already beginning to pick his way up the blockade that was stacked a couple of cars high. “Intel said only that there were people here, not how many, what age or fitness level. Only that they were going to starve if they stayed there much longer.”
The stack groaned ominously for a second before settling again and Leon continued his climb, careful to avoid ragged edges and broken glass. “We can go around if needs be. Moving this shit will attract everything within a 20 mile radius and we don’t know what’s out there.”
As he watched Leon climb his way up to the top of the blockade, Arch stood a few steps back, charging towards the blockade and leaping up, managing to jump right up to the top of the blockade, landing with a thud and, after making sure he wasn’t about to knock the blockade down, turned to the edge, offering Leon a hand to lift him up onto the top “Come on, let’s keep moving.”
Leon continued making his own way to the top with a small roll of his eyes and he took a moment once up there to survey the open space between them and subway down the road ahead of them. For the time being at least, nothing moved, but there was no telling what might be lurking in the buildings nearby. In an ideal world, they’d clear those buildings so nothing could ambush them on the way back, but they were hardly in an ideal world.
“If this shit is so easy for you, go ahead of make sure this area stays clear while i climb down the other side,” he announced, referencing how Arch had just jumped up like it was nothing. Goddamn viruses. “Don’t shoot if you don’t have to. The subway’s just ahead, so you can clear up to the stairwell. Don’t enter until I’ve caught up.”
A simple nod was given as he took a seat, raising his weapon to his eye to scout the area ahead of them, ensuring there was no nasty surprises waiting for Leon once he got down “Though someone must’ve put these here, it’s too perfect to just be a panicked pileup, you know?” He checked around, feeling a little on edge.
He had been through a lot, on the run from his own company because of his family wanting him dead, fighting a zombie plague and its creator. And now here he was competing in the Apex games.
The aging mercenary came to with a start, momentarily unaware of his surroundings before sitting up in bed, checking his bedside clock to see he had woken a few minutes before the alarm was due to go off. He got out of bed, having a quick shower before dressing in the issues casual clothing - his clothing tastes tended to be too good to risk ruining here. He finally stepped out of his issued quarters, making his way towards the cafeteria when he heard over the intercom the following message:
Great. Just when he thought I could slip in unnoticed, he thought.
“All Legends are reminded that today is ‘Talent Recognition Day’, wherein legends are paired with other competitors, to test adaptability and to possibly shed light on some new talent! We hope you all have a good game!”
As he stepped into the cafeteria, it was noticeably more crowded than before, so he moved in to grab a coffee and some bacon, sausages and eggs before taking a seat, looking to see if there was any mention of his 'babysitter’.
…
“Alright, maybe a bit harsh. It’ll be good to pair with someone who knows the lay of the land.” He muttered to himself.
'Arch' : Bogeyman Of The Multiverse Answered a Question
Shepard has a gun pointed at him, but the fact she's giving him a chance is written clearly in her green eyes. It's relatively easy these days to tell who's Cerberus and who isn't. One or two exceptions aside. "Hey. What are you doing?"
The aging mercenary ceased his assault on the Cerberus agent he was holding, the lifeless body dropping to the floor “Just here on some business. I’m from ShadowNet. Mind if I turn around?” He didn’t exactly wait for a response, dropping the karambit knife in his hand as he peeked behind himself.
His face and hands look horrid - like a prisoner of war, but old. “The name’s Arch. Correct me if I’m wrong, aren’t you Commander Shepard?” He had his hands held up, trying to prove he wasn’t going to attack her.
